Today is a review of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar. The original game is fantastic, but how does the expansion pack fare? Read the review to find out. -- sector24 | I can read your mind -- 2008-01-22

No new article today, instead a revision of an existing article, Traditional Bows. I've done some more bow research and expanded the article a bit, plus I cleaned up some of the ugly grammar. But I left enough in so that you can judge me anonymously via the internet. Because I know that's what you really wanted.

I'm in heavy research mode for Armor Legacy right now so I haven't been writing a whole lot of articles. Instead I nagged Thexder to add some functionality to the site. The index pages on the left now display the article rating and # of votes. There's also some increased functionality on the back end to satisfy my selfish needs. Feel free to rate the articles by clicking on the little hypercubes at the bottom of each page. You know you want to. -- sector24 | Fear is the mind-killer -- 2008-01-15

I got some positive feedback concerning last week's stock article, so I decided to write another one. It's called Fortitude and it talks about one of the very common mistakes novice investor's make; scaring themselves out of a good stock. -- sector24 | Year in Review -- 2008-01-09

My friend says that I should write more articles about the stock market, but to be honest I don't feel like I'm an expert by any means. This year I posted a 27% gain, definitely good, but not necessarily as good as a professional.
I did decide to write an article though. It's called Double Income and it talks about the most underutilized perk at a white collar job; insider info you can use in the stock market. If you like it, leave me a comment and I'll consider adding more stock stories to the site.
I am also posting a review of Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command. A version of this review has also been submitted to Amazon and may appear in a few days. Normally I wouldn't put my content on a site like Amazon because you do all the work and they reap all the benefits. But then again when I visit Amazon and the product I want has no reviews I wish someone would post something for me. So as of this week Amazon and are even. ;) -- sector24 | Back to Work, Suckers -- 2008-01-03

I just got back from a much needed vacation visiting my family. Since I started my new job in February, I hadn't taken a single vacation or sick day the entire year. Partially because I haven't been sick and I live too far away from my family to visit for a long weekend, but mostly because I'm a cheap bastard and they pay me so much money I can't stay away from the office. Remember, money doesn't judge you. It loves you just the way you are.
My brother always seems to have lots of PC games that I've never played, so I get to catch up a bit when I go home. He doesn't have the same level of snobbery that I do when it comes to games either, so I also get a greater cross section of the industry than I normally would. Some of the games I played are absolutely awful like Stronghold: Legends and Flatout 2. Others are just average like Empire at War, and Titan Quest. But this year I totally lucked out because he had Company of Heroes.
One of my other friends recommended this game to me a few months back and I dismissed it because I don't like real time strategy games. But the reality is that I just don't like bad real time strategy games, and it turns out that most of them are bad. The genre just lends itself so easily to weak gameplay mechanics like perfect build orders and winning through mechanical repetition rather than clever strategy. But I liked Starcraft and Rise of Nations, and now I really like Company of Heroes. Games like this give me hope for the whole genre, even though I know it'll probably be another 8 years before I see something this good again.
I also finished a review for Dragon Quest 8. Technically I had to leave it halfway finished when I went on vacation, but I can't imagine those metal slimes have any new tricks up their sleeves in the last part of the game.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday. Now get back to work, suckers. -- sector24 |
