Suggested Level: 36-42 (I recommend each player be at least level 40)
Suggested Party: Any (1 priest, 1 tank preferred. A mage and rogue are also helpful)
Location: The NE corner of Tirisfal Glades. (Getting to the instance is probably as hard or harder than actually doing the instance. I will discuss it later.)

------

Quests associated with the Scarlet Monastery:

Brother Anton - Level 39 from Brother Crowley at the Cathedral (He is down in the basement on the right side of the Cathedral in Stormwind.)
Speak with Brother Anton at Nijel's Point in Desolace. Completing this quest allows access to Down the Scarlet Path (part 1).

DESOLACE (Outside the Instance)

Down the Scarlet Path (part 1) - Level 39 from Brother Anton at Nijel's Point (Desolace)

Scarlet Monastery is more about prep work and getting to the instance than it is actually doing the instance. I highly recommend that you don't try this until you get to level 40, so you can have a mount. You will have to travel all the way to Desolace (which is really far to go with no mount) and also Tirisfal Glades (which is really far and somewhat dangerous with no mount). To begin, pick up the two introductory quests in Stormwind and Ironforge. The Stormwind quest Brother Anton takes you to Desolace. There are two ways to get there, both of them difficult. One is to take the boat from Menethil Harbor to Dustwallow Marsh, and ride west along the roads. You will need a guide, or access to a good source of information on the internet. Thankfully I had a guide. Your other option (which is less appealing) is from Dustwallow Marsh to swim south to Steamwheedle Port, ride west to Gadgetzan (Pick up the flight point), ride through Thousand Needles west to Feralas, (pick up the flight point at Thalanaar) and then follow the roads in Feralas north to Desolace. Feralas is a 40-55 zone, so this is probably less of an option.

However you get to Desolace, Nijel's Point is in the top right corner of the map. Brother Anton is in the inn. He asks you to kill 30 Undead Ravagers in Desolace. These are located at the southern end of the zone in the Valley of Bones. They are 39, not elite and fairly easy. A group of 5 can split into 2 or 3 groups and finish the quest in less than an hour. Return to Brother Anton and he will send you to Raleigh the Devout in Hillsbrad.

Hearthstone out, or return from whence you came to get back to Azeroth. Southshore is north of Arathi Highlands, which is north of The Wetlands. If you have none of those flight points, then take the road north in The Wetlands. Go past Dun Modr and into Arathi. Stay on the road in a NW direction (if you take your 2nd right, you can pick up the flight point) until you get to the great wall. Going through that will get you to Hillsbrad where you stay on the road until you see the town on the left. These are contested areas with usually more horde players than alliance players, so having a horse is a great asset. Raleigh the Devout is on the 2nd floor of the inn, and will offer you some really nice stuff in exchange for the heads of the Scarlet Order. Now on to the instance.

The Scarlet Monastery is located in the horde n00b zone in Tirisfal Glades. It's their version of Gnomeragan I guess. To get there, ride north from Hillsbrad into the Alterac Mountains. You want to steer west of the mountains, and east of the water. Follow the water north until you get to the giant castle wall. Say hello to the Undercity. Swim west around the Undercity until you can get back on dry land. Mount up, and ride to the NE corner of the zone. Usually the Monastery is guarded by horde players that have nothing better to do than camp the instance waiting for alliance. You are going to want to get into the Monastery and hug the right wall and get into the blue portal on the far right. If you die, the graveyard is close, and you can resurrect and immediately run in.

So welcome to the first of 4 instance portals that makes up the Scarlet Monastery. Each instance is linear, and you will want to do the portals from right to left. So the rule of thumb is if you don't know which portal is next, hug the right wall from where you came out. Your first target is Houndmaster Locksey. Work your way forward through the monsters, and take note of which ones are paladins, which ones are warriors, and which ones are priests. It's important to know which of your enemies can heal themselves and others. When you get to the courtyard, hug the right wall, killing everything as safely as you can. They run at low health, and they can heal, so if you're not careful you can pull way too many adds and wipe early and often. The side room contains the Houndmaster and his hounds. He is not terribly difficult. One down, four to go.

Continue through the instance, killing as much or as little as you find necessary. There are a lot of side rooms with interesting books, but no Mythology of the Titans yet. You will find that when the hallway widens and the scenery changes to stone. You should be fighting monks and mages at this point. Keep an eye out for the book, it will be on the floor on left of the entrance in one of the rooms. If you miss it on the way in, just remember to find it before you leave. You will know when you get to the final room because the map will show one last circular room. I don't think this guy counts as one of the 4, but he is guarding a treasure chest which contains the Scarlet Key, which grants access to the other instance portals. You're done here, so backtrack to the beginning and remember the respawn. Also remember that there are probably horde waiting outside. If you have a rogue, send him out first and he can unlock the door to the 2nd instance (or pick the lock) and you can hopefully all get through with a minimum amount of ganking.

The 2nd instance is more of the same, but the monsters are higher level. You are going to follow a linear path to the end where you will fight Herod. Herod is alone, so he's not too terribly difficult, but you want to be very prepared when you kill him. When Herod dies, all of his acolytes will come to avenge his death. Having a mage here is very helpful, but not necessary. Since you are done with this instance portal, another option is to kill Herod, loot him, and then wipe. When you're dead you can run to the next portal without being attacked by horde.

There are 2 instance portals left, but you only have to enter one of them. (This is a primarily horde instance, they have more quests than alliance) The portal you want is the next one, which is behind another locked door. You do not want to do the graveyard, so if you find yourself fighting undead then it's the other portal. This is the hardest part of the instance, the monsters are now 38-40 elites. You want to work your way to giant cathedral doors in a timely fashion. When you get to the doors, clear everything around the doors, then start pulling. Be careful not to pull more than 1 or 2 at a time and be VERY careful not to pull Commander Mograine. If you pull the Commander, then just zone out or wipe. There is no other option.

As soon as possible move the whole party inside the cathedral and close the doors. This will eliminate respawned monsters from adding. First thing you want to do is kill everyone in the main area except the Commander. Next, you want to move to the side chamber on the left. Kill everyone in the side chamber without pulling the Commander. Finally, kill everyone in the side chamber on the right without pulling the Commander. On the right side, you will see the torch on the wall has a gear mouseover. Clicking on it reveals a hidden passageway to High Inquisitor Whitemane. How fortunate for you. He is a priest, and has an area effect sleep spell. The best thing to do here is to keep your priest out of the range of the sleep spell and use Dispel Magic on each member of the party. He's a caster, so he should not be a problem.

If you cleared everyone in the cathedral, you should be ready for Commander Mograine. If you didn't then when you pull him, he will /yell for help and anyone in the cathedral you didn't kill is going to aggro on you. Mograine is hard, and you need to save your mana, because after you kill him, something happens. I won't spoil it, but you're going to have to fight him again, and you're also going to have to fight an add. The additional monster that joins is more dangerous than Mograine, she should be dealt with first. So basically it's like fighting a 42 elite, and then two 42 elites immediately after that.

That's the last fight in the instance, you should have killed all four targets, so hearthstone out and go collect your awesome quest reward.
